PIE

If this ZDNet story means what it seems to, Microsoft is looking at Python in the browser. Now there's interesting...a Python Internet Environment, PIE for short?

But Guido van Rossum works for Microsoft's arch-enemy Google! Maybe this is the start of a war over the Python language? It worked out so well for Microsoft with Java, after all.

Well, apparently an embedded Python VM was tried out in the mid-90s but it didn't work so well. I still reckon it's a cracking idea.

MS so far seems to be sticking to the notion of meta-Python; one layer up from .NET. I haven't used Silverlight at all, but AFAIK it doesn't let you do anything very interesting. PIE, though...
